The council says that its budget protects funding for, among other things, 2,200 care packages to maintain the independence of older and disabled people, social care for 750 vulnerable young people, weekly waste and recycling collections, 40 lollipop patrols, the delivery of 53,000 community meals to older and vulnerable people, nine gritting vehicles, 400 grit bins, 50 bus services and 900,000 school meals. It will also keep open all eight children's centres, three recycling centres, eight libraries, three leisure centres, four youth centres and its three one stop shops.
But opposition Tories said there would be more than £5 million of cuts to adult social care and children's services over the next three years. Conservative group leader Councillor Francine Haeberling said: "This budget does not have the protection of vulnerable residents at its heart."
