Bath Green Homes 2013 is now underway and Bath & North East Somerset Council, Transition Bath and the Bath Preservation Trust have worked with local organisations and groups to put on over 20 events, taking place across the area throughout March and April.
The programme aims to show local residents how they can make their homes warmer, greener and cheaper to run. Events include the Green Living Fair on Sunday 24 March at Green Park Station and the annual Open Homes Weekend on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April, which will showcase inspiring examples of local, energy efficient homes.
A number of workshops and talks are also being run, including:
- 'Draught Proof Your Windows' on Thursday 21st March, 1.30pm, Bath Preservation Trust, Building of Bath collection, The Paragon, Free;
- 'Home Energy Efficiency Workshop' on Wednesday 27th March, 7.30pm, Transition Bath, BRLSI, Queen Square, Transition Bath, Free, Booking is essential;
- 'Introduction to Domestic Renewable Energy' on Wednesday 10 April, 7.30pm BRLSI, Queen Square, Transition Bath, Free, Booking is essential.

Councillor Paul Crossley (Lib-Dem, Southdown), Leader of Council, said, "These events represent an excellent opportunity for people to find out how to save energy bills in their homes and cut their carbon footprint. Supporting a community which adapts to changes in our climate and are not dependent on high carbon energy is one of the Council's priorities. We are still looking for volunteers to steward at the Open Homes Weekend and to promote our other events, so if anyone is interested in helping, please do get in contact as we can provide training and support."
One of the home openers, John Toplis, added, reveals, "We have taken a DIY approach to making our home more efficient, and we were the first home in the area to get listed building consent for Solar PV panels on our roof. We are proud to open our home so that others can see how we have saved energy and reduced our carbon footprint".
