Weston's two ward councillors Colin Barrett (Con, Weston) and Malcolm Lees (Ind, Weston) are both separately encouraging people to fight against the housing development proposal.
They have both pledged their support to the group of residents campaigning for village green status.
However they are also examining other ways of protecting the entire plot of land, which stretches up the eastern side of Weston and is in the green belt and designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Mr Barrett has launched a petition, which he is asking people to sign by going online to www.bath conservativesurveys.com.
Mr Lees is urging residents to register their concerns by contacting B&NES Council or emailing him on saveweston villagegreenbelt@gmail. com.
