People from the Bath area are being encouraged to pitch into action and give baseball a try. Bristol Baseball Club, the only team within a 60-mile radius, are keen to grow the sport in this country and are staging a Baseball for Newcomers course on Sunday, April 7. It will run for two hours from 12noon at Clifton College Gymnasium and costs £5 to attend. Co-manager Daniel Looney said: "The Bristol Baseball Club is an amateur, not for profit community sports organisation open to anyone 14 years or older. "This introductory session will be held indoors thus guaranteeing participation in the baseball skills of hitting, fielding and throwing. The session will be run by qualified coaches. "We have done well by winning the British AAA South Division the past two seasons but we would like baseball to grow in the region. "This year we have started a second team playing in the newly formed South West Baseball League with teams from Exeter, Torbay and Plymouth." Visit www.bristolbaseball.co.uk for more information.
