Network Rail have apologised to people in Bath kept awake by noisy work.
Planned works including signalling and telecoms maintenance and track work involving the use of stone blowing and tamping machines have been taking place on the railway for the past two nights.
Residents living in Wells Road have taken to Twitter to say that the noise from the work has been keeping them awake at night.
More work is scheduled to take place tonight, from 11.40pm until 5.10am.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: "We would like to apologise to residents in Wells Road for any disturbance caused by this work, which comprises essential maintenance of the Western region's railway infrastructure in the Bath to Bathampton area."
