WILTSHIRE DIVISION Marshfield are ready to stop the rot and start to move back up the West of England standings this summer.

After suffering relegation in 2011, Marshfield struggled for consistency last term and finished fourth in the Wiltshire Division.

Club secretary Ben White said: "After relegation we had high hopes of going straight back up.

"But despite a great start, our season drifted away."

Winsley, whose one-year stay in the Glos/Wilts Division ended with a return of two wins from ten completed matches, are Marshfield's hosts on Saturday.

White said: "Looking at the teams this season, each game will be tricky so we'll look to take it game by game. A solid top-four position would be pleasing."

The club has suffered from a player drain over the past two seasons, preventing continuity.

White said: "We recently worked out that ten first XI players from two seasons ago have left for various reasons.

"No matter how big a club you are, losing that amount of quality players is going to affect selection and the quality of each team."

The exodus has led Marshfield to look towards their strong youth set-up.

White said: "We always want to involve promising youngsters in senior cricket so, with the players we've lost recently, these opportunities will come soon."
