Larkhall Athletic Ladies produced a top-class performance to beat higher-division hosts Southampton Saints 2-0 after extra time and reach the second round of the FA Women's Cup. A spectacular save from keeper Nicola O'Connell kept Saints out in the fifth minute but Larks held on to possession for long periods, only to be denied with some solid defending. Lizzie Barrett had the ball in the next for Larks in the second period but the referee had failed to play the advantage and awarded a free-kick to the visitors instead. Char Rooney then headed wide from a corner before Kate German rattled an upright with a shot. Larks became stronger as the went into extra-time and Tash Miller gave them the lead following a goalmouth scramble. Rooney then hit the woodwork but a superb lob from Emily Harrington wrapped up Larks' victory in the second period of extra-time. Larkhall host Plymouth Argyle in the next round on January 6, while Keynsham Town – 8-0 home winners over University of Portsmouth last Sunday – were handed a trip to Oxford United in Monday's draw. Cleeve West Town are Larks' visitors when they return to league action on Sunday (2pm).
