Final preparations are under way for next weekend's Weston Village Flower Show.

The show opens at All Saints Centre, in the High Street, at 2.30pm on Saturday, September 7.

Chair of Weston Village Gardening Club Bernard Rymer said it was promising to be a bumper year.

He said: "People have been showing an interest in entering exhibits much earlier this year."

The show has more than 80 classes, including vegetables, flowers, fruit, art, photography, homecraft, and handicrafts.

A scarecrow competition has been organised, with the theme A Character from History.

Mr Rymer added that he was hoping everyone would show their support for the event.

He said: "There is something for everyone and we hope record numbers of people will have a go and put in an entry or two."

Deadline for entries is Wednesday, September 4, to Kit Johnson and Weston Fruit Stores, who are both selling programmes.

The show will be opened by Weston All Saints Primary School head teacher Anne Bull and all the proceeds from the event will go to local voluntary groups.
