A BRITISH double leg amputee and Paralympic gold medallist has passed Bath in his bid to complete 40 marathons in 40 days and raise £1 million for charity.
Richard Whitehead, 37, who was awarded his MBE in January 2013 for his services to athletics, is raising £1 million for Sarcoma UK and Scope by running the marathons from John O'Groats to Land's End.
On Friday he passed through Keynsham stopping off in Bath on Saturday before making his way into North Somerset where met Virgin Media's 'Simply the Vest' winner 10-year-old Ellie Hayes from Weston-super-Mare.
Ellie came up with 'Living a life without limits' as a message to inspire Richard on his challenge and she presented the London 2012 200m Paralympic gold medallist with her design.
Richard said: "Getting to Bristol and into the South West has been a real test with plenty of ups and downs.
"I have now completed 30 marathons, with 10 still to go. I've been through rain, wind and blisters the size of my fists but support and donations from the public are keeping my spirits high. I loved that Ellie's design captured just how much the crowds are behind me. They made me smile."
