Hundreds of people turned out to watch the annual switch-on of the Christmas lights in Moorland Road yesterday.
Crowds lined the street in Oldfield Park to see the illuminations and around 250 children queued up to meet Santa Claus.
The lights were switched on by the Mayor of Bath Councillor Malcolm Lees, who was joined by two local youngsters Harry and Daisy Allinson.
Mr Lees said that although he now lived in Weston it was always fun to return to the Oldfield Park area, where he had grown up.
He said: "It is great to see so many people here this evening, it just shows what a wonderful community spirit there is.
"It is wonderful to see this year's lights, with all the small Christmas trees illuminated."
Many of the people who had turned out for the switch-on also commented on the area's community spirit.
Jo Bowden had taken along her children, five-year-old Daisy and two-year-old Bea.
She said: "I grew up around here, so this is my community.
"We always see lots of people we know, the kids that the children go to school with and their parents that I know.
"It is our community."
The youngsters, who are friends with Harry and Daisy Allinson, were excitedly talking about what they were going to ask Santa for.
Jo and Ben Davies were also queuing to see Santa, with their daughters, Poppy, three, and ten-month-old Esmae.
Mrs Davies said: "This is the first year we have been, but the children wanted to see Father Christmas and to see the lights.
"It is lovely, we wanted to come and support the local businesses and because it is smaller than the Bath switch-on, it's a bit better for the children."
