A team of politicians and council officials will be giving a new meaning to the term running for office as they take part in the Bath Half Marathon.

The members of Team Inspiration will be among the 15,000 people who have entered the race on Sunday, March 3.

The team is made up of B&NES Council leader Paul Crossley, deputy leader and cabinet member for neighbourhoods David Dixon, chief executive Jo Farrar, head of sports development Lynda Deane and council officers David Trethewey and Michael Butler.

Mr Dixon said: "I was inspired to run off the back of the Olympics.

"Myself and a few of my colleagues organised several events around the Olympics, including a record attempt to get the Olympic rings made out of people, so this made me really want to do a half marathon.

"And once my colleagues saw I was doing it they were also inspired to do the Bath Half."

The team will be running for a number of charities, including the Carers Centre and the British Heart Foundation.

Meanwhile, returning for the second year will be the volunteer 131 Independent Commando Squadron from the Royal Engineers.

After their success last year they will once again be running in full uniform.

Lt Chris Harvey, from Bristol, said: "We have a slightly lighter weight than last year when we carried a weight of 45lb, so we are hoping to be able to run it all this year."

They will be running for the Royal United Hospital's Forever Friends Appeal and to raise awareness for the squadron.
