One of Bath's longest serving secondary school head teachers is preparing to stand down to pursue a career as a yoga instructor.

Libby Lee, who has led Ralph Allen School for 13 years, has announced she will be leaving at the end of the summer holidays.

The search is now on for a replacement and the recruitment process will begin at the end of this month.

Ms Lee trained as an English teacher and joined the Claverton Down Road school as deputy head in 1996, working under the previous head Frank Thomas.

When he left in 2000, she stepped into the leadership role and has since become its longest-serving head.

She said: "Ralph Allen School has been a wonderful school to lead. I would not wish to be a head teacher in any other school and have stayed so long because it is such a lovely place."

Ms Lee, whose own children have been pupils at Ralph Allen, said she was hoping to fulfil her ambitions of becoming a yoga instructor.

She qualified as an Iyengar yoga teacher in 1991 and gained her junior intermediate qualification in 2008.

She is also hoping to work as an education coach and consultant.

She said of the school: "It will always be a very special place for me."

Chair of governors Dr Julia Garratt said Ms Lee had led the school with imagination, creativity and energy.

"We are confident that she will be leaving the school in a strong position and that it will continue to thrive as a result of her unflagging work."
