The City of Bath College has been recognised for the way it promotes healthy living among its students.

Staff have been awarded the Healthy Further Education Certificate from the Director of Public Health.

It shows the college has successfully worked closely with the primary care trust to meet the set criteria in 21 key areas, including the promotion of sexual health and contraception, healthy eating and raising awareness of the dangers of alcohol and drugs.

Rob Heyes, student support and engagement manager, welcomed the news and said he was pleased everyone's hard work had been recognised.

He said: "I'm pleased to say we are now seen as a healthy college, this just officially shows what we already knew.

"We have always put the health and well-being of our students first and will continue to do so.

"Having healthy students means they are able to do better and focus more in their lessons.

"It means they will get more out of college and this will hopefully have a life-long impact on their health."
