An under-strength Timsbury side found it tough going in their final friendly match before the new season and were well beaten by 119 runs away to Lansdown.
The Bath side who have been busy recruiting players for the new season are likely to be one of the hot favourites in the West of England Premier League Bristol and North Somerset Division and, apart from the absent new skipper Tom Hankins who has been signed from Corsham, were close to full strength.
Two class performers who have returned to the Lansdown ranks featured noticeably when their side batted first.
Andy Owen escaped a missed catch early in his innings before making a cultured 75 and Darren Barnes hit 30. South African wicketkeeper/batsman Daryn-Lee Dorman with 32, Ashley Book with a hard hitting 39, Jackson Hamilton (29) and James Dunning who was undefeated on 26 all contributed to a formidable 45 over total of 255-7.
Steve Clothier (2-40) was Timsbury's most successful bowler but Neil Hucker bowled a tight early spell (0-8 from 5 overs) and Mark Smith after conceding early runs came back strongly to take 1-36 from 9 overs while Dave Filer conceded just two more runs for his one wicket.
In the Timsbury innings there was another encouraging knock from Jez Hare who returned to the ground where he played his youth cricket to register an impressive 46 and skipper Mark Sage was going well before he was well caught by Dorman for 21.
Filer (18), Jon Strand (16) and Hucker (10 not out) offered brief resistance but wickets fell all too frequently to challenge the Lansdown total. Chris Day (4-20) and Dunning (3-39) returned the best bowling figures for the home side.
Timsbury get their league season under way on Saturday with a home game with Shirehampton with the 2nds travelling to play the Bristol side's second string. The 3rds begin their North Somerset League campaign away to Grendel seconds.
