Students at a Bath secondary school have been spending their lunch hours in the lab as part of a chemistry week.

Oldfield School hosted a series of lunchtime practical sessions on top of the usual science lessons so pupils could take part in experiments, quizzes and problem solving tasks.

Head of science David Robson said the idea was to make the subject exciting and show the young people how what they were learning in the classroom was relevant to the real world.

He said: "Oldfield School students have been given the opportunity to take part in a series of lunchtime practical activities as part of our chemistry celebrations.

"During lessons, they are also involved in chemistry quizzes and problem-solving tasks, all of which are designed to show students how important chemistry is in their studies and examples of where it features in their everyday lives.

"Chemistry Week provides a great opportunity to highlight what an interesting and exciting subject chemistry is and for our students to have fun learning more along the way."
